TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The provincial government of Jakarta reported that the road renovation on West Sunter Lake as part of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) access improvement has been finalized.
“(The government) is now continuing its project to the renovation of the sidewalks,” said the Acting Chief of Jakarta Bina Marga Roads Agency, Heru Suwondo, when met in South Jakarta on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
Heru explained that the provincial government will renovate Jl. West Sunter Lake and Jl. Danau Sunter Permai by elevating the road, renovating the sidewalks, and providing streetlights. Both streets are located on the east side of JIS.
Meanwhile, the central government through the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry will be responsible for extending the existing gate, which is the only access to enter the stadium as of right now. The ministry will also revamp the grass on JIS’ fields on a Rp. 6 billion budget. The renovation is being conducted in preparation to hold the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
Previously, the Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said the government involved PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) in the renovation project. Jakpro itself is Jakarta’s regional-owned enterprise bestowed with the responsibility to maintain the 82,000-capacity stadium.
Heru has not disclosed the exact target to finalize access development from the east of JIS. The acting governor only mentioned that they target the development to finish prior to the U-17 World Cup 2023.
